IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill has been criticised after he got out for 23 runs off 66 balls in the first innings against England. After grinding in the middle for 66 balls, Shubman Gill got out tamely to become Tom Hartley's first wicket in Test cricket.
On the fifth ball of the 35th over, Gill tried to break shackles and hot over the in-field but ended up giving a dolly to Ben Duckett at short mid-wicket.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested that Shubman Gill should work on his technique with Rahul Dravid and look to bat on the backfoot. Manjrekar said Gill should not just look to defend with a straight bat.
“Shubman Gill’s decision to bat slower than the need of the hour went against him. You’ve to look at the way he got out. You got the impression when he played the shot that he was trying to break the shackles somewhat, trying to hit over the infield. It was a bit of a grind for Shubman Gill,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.
“We’ve been talking a lot about backfoot play on turning pitches against spinners and when you look at the backfoot play of Gill, you’ll see that there’s hardly any. He’s only trying to defend with a pretty rigid bat instead of trying to maneuver it. This is something that I’m sure Gill will start working on. No better person than Rahul Dravid to be there with him to just encourage him to play more of the backfoot,” Manjrekar added.
Batting geat Sunil Gavaskar also slammed the right-hand batter who is trying to make the number three spot his own. He was baffled by the shot selection of the Punjab batter.
"What kind of a shot was he looking to play? One can understand if he was looking to play it in the air but it was just a badly executed on-drive. He did all the hard work and then played a shot like that," Gavaskar was heard saying on commentary for Jion Cinema.
India ended Day 2 at 421/7, 175 runs ahead of England's first innings total of 246. Ravindra Jadeja went back unbeaten on 81, and Axar Patel was accompanying him on an unbeaten 35 off 62. KL Rahul missed out on his hundred by 14 runs.
