IND vs ENG: The BCCI's Men's Selection Committee unveiled Team India's squad for the T20I series against England on Saturday (January 11). The England tour of India is set to commence on January 22 in Kolkata.

Notably, star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been excluded from the squad, with Dhruv Jurel being brought in as a backup option to Sanju Samson, who scored two T20I centuries last year. Pant's absence continues, as he has not featured in a T20I match since July 2024.

Seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami has made his way back into the Indian setup after a long hiatus, having last played for the national team in the 2023 ODI World Cup final at Ahmedabad's iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav remains India's captain in the shortest format, while all-rounder Axar Patel has been handed the role of vice-captain for the England series, a position that has often been assigned to Hardik Pandya in the past. The decision to name Axar Patel as the new vice-captain has sparked considerable discussion leading up to the series.

After this particular series, India will shift their focus to a 3-match ODI series against England, which will act as a preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue last won the Champions Trophy back in 2013 and were runners-up in the previous edition in 2017, where they lost the summit clash to arch-rivals and this year's co-host, Pakistan.

This particular series will be crucial for the team as the squad for this very series in all likelihood will be the squad for Champions Trophy as well.
