The Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) has announced the India squad for the upcoming England series on Saturday (May 24).
The India tour of England 2025 promises to be a landmark event, kicking off the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle with a five-match Test series, starting from June 20.

Ahead of that, the selectors have picked Shubman Gill as the captain, who has been chosen as the successor of Rohit Sharma. Apart from that, Rishabh Pant has been named as Gill's deputy. The selectors also thought of Jasprit Bumrah as captain, but his workload management meant the India pacer couldn't play all the matches, which led to Bumrah being discarded.
Rishabh Pant has been named as the vice-captain for the series. Mohammed Shami was not named among the players as the pacer endured a setback recently. Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included while Shardul Thakur has made a return to the Indian setup after some time.
Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan have also got their maiden Test call-ups in the England series, while Shardul Thakur is back in the Test setup.
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar also mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for all the five Test matches.
"I don't think he will be able to play all five Tests, as per what the physios, doctors told have told us. Whether it's four or three, we will see how the series goes and how his body can keep the workload. Even if he fit for three or four Tests, he will win us a few matches. We are glad that he is fit and we've seen what he is doing in the IPL," Agarkar said on Bumrah.
