IND vs ENG: Michael Vaughan has reckoned that India would not have lost the first Test against England in Hyderabad if Virat Kohli was captaining the side. He said that Rohit Sharma "just switched off completely" after England fought back in the second innings.
India took a 190-run lead in the first innings, but Ollie Pope rose up to the occasion and scored 196 runs in the second innings to help England set a 231-run target for India.

England were five down for 163 and six down for 275, but the tail-enders rallied around Pope to help England finish their second innings at 420. The likes of Rehan Ahmed and Rom Hartley scored 28 (53) and 34 (52) runs respectively.
"They missed Virat Kohli's captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat's captaincy that week, India wouldn't have lost the game. Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely," he said.
The former England captain came down hard on Rohit in his column for The Telegraph as well, last week, saying that the 36-year-old wasn't proactive while leading the side in Hyderabad and rather looked "clueless" as Pope executed his sweeps and reverse-sweeps during his match-winning knock.
"I thought Rohit Sharma's captaincy was very, very average. I thought he was so reactive, I don’t think he maneuvered his field or was proactive with his bowling changes. And he didn’t have any answer to Ollie Pope’s sweeps or reverse sweeps," Vaughan wrote.
Former India captain Virat Kohli has made himself unavailable for the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The second in Visakhapatnam will start from February 2.
