IND vs ENG: Indian Bowler Ravi Bishnoi Talks Handling Pressure Ahead of 5th T20I

By MyKhel Staff

India's young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has opened up about handling pressure and his bowling strategies as the team prepares for the crucial fifth T20I against England. Following India's 15-run victory in the fourth T20, Bishnoi reflected on his performance and shared insights into his game plan for the decider.

Speaking exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar, Bishnoi said, "I want to keep taking wickets like I did today. The first two matches didn't go the way I wanted, and I didn't finish the third as I had hoped. But the team, captain, and coaches backed me, and it takes just one match to bounce back-today was that match."

Bishnoi emphasized the importance of being prepared for any role assigned by the team. With spinners Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and himself frequently called upon in different phases of the innings, he understands the necessity of adaptability.

"Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav) told me that I should always be ready. Axar, Varun, and I-all three of us have bowled in the powerplay, and we must be prepared as any of us can be called upon. When I was handed the ball today, I knew that Ben Duckett struggles to play straight and prefers shots square of the wicket."

He added, "So, I cut off both his square-of-the-wicket options and bowled deliveries that forced him to play the straight drive more often." His ability to analyze batters' weaknesses and execute specific game plans has been a crucial part of his rise as a key bowler in India's T20 setup.

While known for his deceptive googlies, Bishnoi has been working on improving his traditional leg-spin to make his bowling more unpredictable. "I have been working on my leg-spin, and over time, batters tend to anticipate and predict deliveries. So, I've been training extensively with my coaches back home and always try to refine it."

He added, "Earlier, I wasn't too confident with my leg-spin, but now I can execute it much better. My goal is to confuse the batter as much as possible." When asked about the toughest batter he has faced, Bishnoi named England captain Jos Buttler as a formidable challenge.

"In my opinion, Jos Buttler is an exceptional player against spin. He has been playing here for a long time and has also competed in the TATA IPL. When a player like him has spent so much time here, he naturally develops a deeper understanding of how to tackle spin. He is one of the toughest batters to bowl to at home."

Bishnoi's ability to handle pressure and bounce back from setbacks has been instrumental in India's bowling attack. His rapid rise saw him become the No. 1 T20I bowler in ICC rankings, surpassing Afghanistan's Rashid Khan. With a crucial decider against England ahead, India will be banking on Bishnoi's wicket-taking abilities to seal the series.
