IND vs ENG: Joe Root dethrones Rahul Dravid to claim Top Spot in Unique Test Cricket Record

By MyKhel Staff

Joe Root has etched his name into cricket's record books by becoming the player with the most catches in Test cricket, surpassing India's Rahul Dravid. The Englishman now has 211 catches in the longest format of the game, surpassing Rahul Dravid's 210.

The historic moment came at Lord's on Friday (July 11), during the third Test against India, where Root executed a stunning one-handed catch at first slip to dismiss Karun Nair off Ben Stokes' bowling.

The catch, confirmed clean by the third umpire after a review, not only broke Dravid's long-standing mark but also gave England a crucial breakthrough against a threatening Indian partnership. Root has achieved this feat in his 156th Test match, demonstrating extraordinary consistency and athleticism in the slip cordon.

Root's record is even more impressive considering he also remains England's all-time leading run-scorer in Tests, underlining his status as one of the game's modern greats.

Earlier, the Englishman scored a magnificent hundred at Lord's, thus helping England to post a decent total of 387 in the first innings. India, after Karun Nair's dismissal, currently are 97 for 2 with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill at the crease.

Root, who started his career back in 2012, has been a phenomenon not just with the bat, but on the field as well. The 34-year-old is set to play a crucial part for England as they look to take the lead in the five-match Test series against India.
