IND vs ENG: No Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli - Yashasvi Jaiswal stands tall with Sunil Gavaskar in This Record!

Yashasvi Jaiswal has managed to bring his name alongside India legend Sunil Gavaskar in a unique record on the 1st day of the Dharamshala Test.

India are taking on England in the 5th Test and the hosts are currently in an advantageous state. After bundling out England for just 218 runs, India are currently 135 for 1 at the end of the day's play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored yet another half-century in the series as the southpaw bludgeoned past his way to amass 57 runs off just 58 balls. He hit 5 fours and 3 sixes, and has provided India a solid foundation before getting dismissed in the bowling of Shoaib Bashir.

But despite not getting another century, Jaiswal has etched his name into the history books.

On to his personal score of 45, Jaiswal became the first Indian batter to score 700+ runs in a Test series since 1979, when Sunil Gavaskar amassed 732 runs against the West Indies.

Gavaskar also holds the record for India scoring the most number of runs in a Test series with 774 runs, which came against West Indies in the 1970-71 season across 4 Tests.

Over the years, many stalwarts have graced the India shirt but no one has been able to breach the 700-run mark in a Test series. Virat Kohli came the closest when he got 692 runs against Australia back in 2014-15. So it has happened for the first time in India's Test history in 44 years, which is a remarkable feat by the youngster.

The 22-year-old will have an opportunity to go past Sunil Gavaskar if India bat in the 2nd innings and he will need to score 63 runs to be the undisputed record holder for India.

Among the active players, Australia's Steve Smith holds the record of scoring most runs in a Test series. The Aussie star was excellent in the 2019 Ashes and got 774 runs.
