IND vs ENG: 'Ravindra Jadeja best cricketer in world' - Sunil Gavaskar after all-rounder's gritty 87-run knock

IND vs ENG: Ravindra Jadeja's gritty 87-run knock off 180 balls has floored batting great Sunil Gavaskar who has called him 'best cricketer in the world'. Jadeja missed out on his well-deserving fourth Test hundred but helped India take a massive 190-run lead in the first innings.

Jadeja spent 290 minutes in the middle to hit seven boundaries and two sixes. He was part of the crucial partnerships which took India to 436 in the first innings.

Jadeja first stitched a 65-run partnership with KL Rahul. His partnership with KS Bharat accounted for 68 runs off 141 balls. Later, Jadeja and Axar Patel scored 78 runs together.

The Saurashtra star walked out on Day 3 of the Test match with a hundred on his mind, but Joe Root spoiled his party. He lunged forward to defend a delivery but the straighter delivery trapped him in front of the stumps.

Regardless, Jadeja's innings got appreciation by everyone including Sunil Gavaskar who praised the southpaw for his brilliance in all the three departments of the game.

"Jadeja is probably the best cricketer in the world with the contribution he makes with bat, ball and in the field. He adds so much value to the team and by all accounts he is an absolute delight in the changing room as well," Gavaskar told Jio Cinema.

The left-arm spinner also picked three wickets in the first innings, and got the crucial wicket of Jonny Bairstow in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja is currently the number one ranked Test all-rounder in the world. He is ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin, Shakib Al Hasan and Ben Stokes in the list.
