IND vs ENG: India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday went past Sachin Tendulkar's tally for second-highest number of runs for India in World Cups (ODIs and T20Is). India lost two early wickets in their sixth match of the World Cup 2023 against England, but Rohit kept India afloat by carrying forward his good form.
Rohit Sharma took over Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 2278 runs in six World Cups at an average of 57. Sachin did not play any T20 World Cup in his career. Rohit Sharma is featuring in his third ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma has played a total of 39 T20 World Cup matches since the inaugural edition in 2007 and scored 963 runs at an average of 34.39 and a strike rate of 127.88.

Further, Rohit Sharma also became the sixth India ODI captain after Sachin Tendulkar, M Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to score over 1000 runs in a year.
As soon as he completed his 48 runs in the innings, he also became the fifth India batter to complete 18000 runs in international cricket after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.
As a player, Rohit Sharma has achieved the feat fifth time in his career. Ganguly, Ricky Ponting and Sangakkara achieved the feat six times each. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have crossed the 1000-run mark in a year seven times.
Virat Kohli is leading the list with 2525 runs at an average of 62. Kohli, who is one short of equalling Sachin Tendulkar's 49th ODI hundred, got out for a 9-ball duck at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
The 34-year-old has equalled Sachin Tendulkar's tally for most ducks for India while batting in top seven. Kohli and Tendulkar are now tied at 34 ducks each across formats. Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma are second and third on the list with 31 and 30 ducks respectively. Sourav Ganguly got out without scoring 29 times in his international career.
India, who have won each of their five matches in the World Cup 2023, have been asked to bat first in Lucknow. England are the bottom-ranked team with four defeats in five matches.
