Rohit Sharma has retired in Tests for India and Shubman Gill will be leading the team for the upcoming England series. It promises to be a litmus test for the inexperience India side who will be up against a strong team.
As India gears up for a crucial overseas Test tour, there has been a symbolic passing of the torch inside the team bus - Kuldeep Yadav has taken the seat once occupied by now-retired Test captain Rohit Sharma.

The left-arm wristspinner, who played a pivotal role in India's 4-1 comeback victory over England earlier this year with 19 wickets in four Tests at an impressive average of 20.15, is now soaking up tactical nuances from Ravindra Jadeja. With R Ashwin and Rohit Sharma both having stepped away from the longest format, Kuldeep finds himself leaning on Jadeja for guidance.
"Playing alongside Jadeja is such a great honour for me," Kuldeep was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
"Obviously, Jadeja and [R] Ashwin have been brilliant over the last few years. When I made my debut in India, they helped me a lot. And even now, we have been having a lot of chat about how to bowl to certain batters, given the way the England batters are batting at the moment," he added.
Kuldeep, who is likely to feature if India opts for a second spinner behind first-choice allrounder Jadeja, is doing everything he can to bridge the experience gap - even off the field. And then came the revelation that Kuldeep now sits next to Jadeja on the team bus, in the exact seat once occupied by Rohit Sharma.
"I can never take Rohit bhai's place," he said with a laugh. "It's just that I'm spending a lot of time with Jaddu bhai. It's obviously very important for me as a spinner, because Ash bhai [Ashwin, also retired] isn't there, and I've learned a lot from Ash bhai, and now that he isn't there, [I'm looking to learn from] whichever senior player is there."
India will be playing a five-match Test series against England led by Shubman Gill, with the first match set to start from June 20.
