Shubman Gill should have continued opening for the Indian team, reckons his father Lakhwinder Gill.
The Indian batter has played all his life as an opener. But in recent days, Gill has been given a spot at No. 3 amid the emergence of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Although the Indian batter stressed he is happy to contribute at any position, his father doesn't concur with the role.

"He should have continued to open. It is not right at all I feel. When you sit in the dressing room for longer, the pressure tends to increase. Number 3 is not opening neither it is a middle-order spot," Lakhwinder Gill told PTI.
"Plus his game is not like that, it suits the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara who has a defensive game. When the ball is new you get more loose balls, when you come in after 5-7 overs, the ball is still shiny and the bowler is also settled with his length."
Although his father is not amused with the role, senior Gill also confirmed that he respects his son's decision and stands by Shubman in every step.
"I don't interfere in his decisions. I just train with him. He is old enough to make his own decisions. I made decisions on his behalf only when he was a teenager," he added.
Gill was under immense pressure for his lack of form, but the batter has shown his class in the Test series against England. The 24-year-old notched up his second century of the series in Dharamshala, scoring 110 runs off 150 balls.
Gill hit 12 fours and 5 sixes in his innings, which epitomized aggression. The batter took apart both spinners and pacers, and speaking about that, Gill's father says playing in his own style has brought the success.
"Stepping out has made a big difference, he had stopped doing that and that created pressure. Since his U-16 days, he has been stepping out to the spinners and pacers as well to cut the movement," Lakhwinder told.
"The moment you don't play your natural game you are in trouble. The whole game is about confidence, when you get one good innings you are back to your best. Since his U-16 days, he used to make tons of runs," he further added.
With his latest century, Gill has now amassed 452 runs in the Test series, making him the 2nd highest run getter after Yashasvi Jaiswal (712).
