IND vs ENG: Sunil Gavaskar reveals why he is interested to see Rohit Sharma's captaincy in 1st Test in Hyderabad

IND vs ENG: Batting great Sunil Gavaskar has his eyes set in anticipation of watching Rohit Sharma's captaincy in the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Gavaskar has predicted that the Hyderabad pitch might not be very helpful for the spinners allowing the England batters to get off to a good start. The batting great is keen to watch how Rohit Sharma rotates his bowler and reacts after India is devoid of a wicket in the first session.

“As a captain... we have to see, we know the Hyderabad pitch might not take a lot of turn. If England get to bat first, and get off to a good start and don't lose a wicket until lunch, then it will be interesting to see how Rohit Sharma handles the bowling attack, how he rotates his options. We have to see that and judge his captaincy,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma can make lives of No. 3 and No. 4 batters easy - Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar also stated that Rohit Sharma would play a key role as batter in the series. He said Rohit can help the batters coming at number three and four by scoring big at the top.

“Rohit, the batter, the manner in which he batted in the Chennai Test, he hit a hundred, and it was a very good hundred. He showed how to bat on spin-friendly pitches. If he continues to bat that way, India will definitely get a good start. And it can make No.3 and No. 4 batters' lives easily,” Gavaskar said.

Rohit Sharma was the second-highest run-scorer in the home Test series against England in 2021. He scored 345 runs in four matches at an average of 57.50. He scored 161 runs in the first innings of the second Test in Chennai to help India level the series 1-1. India later won the series by a 3-1 margin.
