India legend Sunil Gavaskar has pointed out an issue during the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal between India and England.
As the two teams lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium, the former India player turned commentator bashed the public announcer inside the stadium.

In the 11th over of the match, Jasprit Bumrah came to bowl. After the India pacer was hit for a boundary in the second ball and bowled a wide, the public announcer at the Wankhede Stadium kept on encouraging the crowd and asked them to cheer 'Boom, Boom, Bumrah'.
As the crowd reverberated with the tune, Sunil Gavaskar was quick to point out the gross mistake in disturbing the atmosphere with loud noises. Although cheering the crowd in between the overs is common in IPL, a World Cup requires a different approach and a lot more neutral act from the announcer.
"The public addresser is encouraging the crowd to say Boom, Boom, Bumrah in between deliveries. Not too sure that's good thing for the game. Between Overs, Yes, but between deliveries, don't think (it's right). This is a World Cup," Gavaskar said on-Air while commentating in the semifinal.
India posted 253 with the bat as Sanju Samson played a sublime knock of 89 runs off just 42 deliveries. Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan also scored runs as they posted the mammoth total. In reply, England are batting superbly and are 168/4 in the 14th over. Jacob Bethell bats on 73 off just 32, while Will Jacks is also scoring superbly on 35.
