IND vs ENG: Ravichandran Ashwin 'played mind games' early on Day 2 of the second Test in Visakhapatnam, while England veteran pacer James Anderson was gearing to bowl his delivery to Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Anderson came in to bowl the second over of the day, when Ashwin stretched his hand which forced Anderson to stop just before delivering the delivery. An animated conversation with umpire Marais Erasmus and Anderson followed.

Later, Anderson was also apparently seen explaining to Erasmus that Ashwin was standing too close to the stumps. He stood exactly where Ashwin was standing at the non-striker's end, and explained the reason behind his discomfort.
"He is very, very close to Jimmy, and I don't think Jimmy likes it. I don't think Jimmy likes it at all. Jimmy turns around and looks at him. I think the conversation here is 'You are standing too close'. You cannot do anything about it," Kevin Pietersen said while broadcasters JioCinema showed the replay of the incident.
In the words of Dinesh Karthik, "Ashwin played his trick". However, Anderson had the last laugh at the end as he dismissed Ashwin for 20 off 37. The wobble seam delivery took a faint edge and landed into the hands of wicket-keeper Ben Foakes.
Notably, the two players share a history over their contrasting stance on running out the batter on the non-striker's end. After Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler for leaving the crease before the completion of the delivery in IPL 2019, Anderson had shredded Ashwin's picture in an online video.
During the 2020 U19 World Cup, Anderson took to X to express his frustration over Afghanistan bowler Noor Ahmed running out Pakistan’s Mohammad Huraira at the non-striker's end while going to bowl a delivery.
“Can we sort out (remove) this law please @ICC #MCC??” Anderson's post read.
Replying to the post, Ashwin wrote, "“Law removal might need some deliberation!! A Shredder might do the trick for now.”
India were bowled out for 396 after a double hundred from Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored 209 runs off 290 balls. Anderson picked three wickets in the match. Spinners Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed also picked three wickets each.
