IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli on cusp of breaking Sunil Gavaskar's record in home Test series against England

IND vs ENG: Former India captain Virat Kohli is approaching an elusive milestone in the upcoming 5-match Test series against England. Kohli can achieve the landmark as soon as the first Test match in Hyderabad from January 25.

Records are not new to Virat Kohli but this one will take him past legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli is currently third on the list of India batters with most Test runs against England at home.

Sunil Gavaskar has scored the most runs against England in home Test matches. He played 22 Test matches against England at home and scored 1331 runs at an average of 35.97. He smashed eight hundreds and eight fifties against the Three Lions.

Gundappa Viswanath is second on the list with 1022 runs at an average of 36.50 in 17 Test matches. Viswanath scored three hundreds and three fifties against the English Test side at home in India.

Virat Kohli is just eight runs short of overtaking Gundappa Viswanath in the list. The star batter has scored 1015 runs in 13 Test matches at an average of 56.38. He is one of the three batters alongside Viswanath and Sachin Tendulkar to hit three three home Test hundreds. Only Cheteshwar Pujara (4) and Mohammad Azharuddin (4) have scored more hundreds.

Virat Kohli is also 152 runs short of becoming the 18th batter to complete 9000 runs in Test cricket. The 35-year-old is also a hundred short of becoming only the 15th batter to hit 30 or more tons in the format.

Kohli recently moved three places to become the sixth ranked Test batter in the world. Rohit Sharma (10th) is the only other India batter in the top ten list.
