IND vs ENG: What happened when India and England last played against each other in T20 World Cup

IND vs ENG: In the last meeting between India and England at the T20 World Cup, Jos Buttler's side thrashed India by 10 wickets and four overs remaining. In the semi-final of T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide, England chased down a 169-run target in just 16 overs without losing any wicket against India.

England won the toss and elected to field first in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. India lost their first wicket in the second over of the match when KL Rahul (5) edged a delivery into the gloves of Jos Buttler.

India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got involved in a slow 47-run partnership off 43 balls for the second wicket. Rohit was dismissed by Chris Jordan in the ninth over. He scored 27 runs off 28 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav arrived in the middle with India two down for 56 but could chip only with 14 off 10 balls. Rashid Khan picked the prized wicket of the start T20I batter in the 12th over.

Hardik Pandya walked in at five and upped the ante a bit with his 61-run partnership off 40 balls. Virat Kohli completed his fourth fifty of the T20 World Cup 2022 off 39 balls, and got out immediately on the very next ball.

Rishabh Pant walked in to bat with India four down for 136 in 18 overs. Hardik Pandya took the onus on him to take India past 150. He finished the 19th over from Sam Curran with a four, six and then another four. Pant was dismissed for four off six on the third ball of the 20th over, but Hardik hit a six off the fourth ball from Chris Jordan and then followed it with a four. Hardik, who scored 63 off 33 (four fours, and five sixes), was dismissed on the final ball of the innings.

The second innings saw a batting carnage from England openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales. The duo scored 63 runs in the powerplay, and fired England to 98/0 at the end of 10 overs. They scored 72 runs in next six overs as England chased down 169 runs in 16 overs without losing a single wicket.

While Jos Buttler scored unbeaten 80 runs off 49 balls (9 fours and three sixes), Alex Hales was adjudged Man of the Match for his 86 not out runs off 47 balls (4 fours and 7 sixes).

Jasprit Bumrah was not available to play in the tournament due to his injury. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel were the bowlers against England.

England eventually defeated Pakistan in the final to win the T20 World Cup 2022.
