IND vs ENG: 'Where is He' - Shubman Gill takes a cheeky dig at British Journalist after Edgbaston Victory - Watch

By MyKhel Staff

Shubman Gill emerged as the cornerstone of India's first-ever Test win at Edgbaston, rewriting record books with his extraordinary batting and bold captaincy.

Scoring 430 runs across both innings (269 in the first, 161 in the second), Gill achieved the second-highest aggregate by any batter in a single Test match, trailing only Graham Gooch's 456 against India in 1990.

His 269 in the first innings marked the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests, surpassing Virat Kohli's 254* against South Africa in 2019, and placed him among legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid as one of the few Indians to score a double-century in England.

He orchestrated a strategic declaration at 427/6, setting England a daunting 608-run target, and backed his bowlers to exploit a wearing pitch. His decision to rest Jasprit Bumrah, despite criticism, paid off as Akash Deep stepped up with a match-defining 10-wicket haul (10/187), the best by an Indian in England since Chetan Sharma in 1986.

And after the victory, the India Test captain took a cheeky dig at one of the British journalists, who have been criticising the Indian team following the Headingley defeat.

"I can't see my favourite journalist. Where is He? I actually wanted to see him," Gill said at the post-match press conference, eliciting a laugh at the press box. The video was shared by journalist Ankan Kar, present in England, who was also the one asking the question.

The India captain was quite vocal at the post-match presentation as well where he credited the team foe rectifying their mistakes from the first match.

"All the things we spoke about after the first game, we were spot on with all of those things. Our bowling and fielding was tremendous to see," Gill said after the match.

The India skipper looked a class apart at Edgbaston. A venue where even the greats couldn't win, this Indian team came and humbled England with a massive victory. Despite the defeat in his very first match as captain, the Punjab boy has emerged as a champion, both as a leader and a batter. And Gill says his decisions will also reflect the batter that he is.

"Everyday is a learning curve for me. Whenever I go out there, I've said this before, I just want to play as a batsman and I want to think as a batsman and I want to make my decisions and risk management as a batsman. Sometimes when you are out there and thinking as a captain, you don't take that risks which I think as a batsman sometimes is necessary," he added.

The 3rd Test is set to start from July 10 at Lord's and Gill confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will be available for the clash.
