IND vs ENG: Why Yashasvi Jaiswal got retired hurt after slamming hundred in second consecutive Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal left the ground retired hurt in the final moments of Day 3 of the ongoing third Test between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Three overs after completing a 122-ball hundred and leaping in air for a David Warne-like celebration, Yashasvi Jaiswal was down on the ground as Team India physio had to rush in the middle.

Jaiswal looked in immense pain as he held his back, and after a brief treatment decided to carry on. However, the physio had to return only after six deliveries. The opener opted to continue once again but walked off as soon as Tom Hartley completed the 44th over by bowling four consecutive dots to him.

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in immense pain as he walked off after scoring 104 runs off 133 balls, amid standing ovation from everyone including England head coach Brendon McCullum.

The 22-year-old, who is playing in his seventh Test, smashed a double hundred in the second game of the 5-match series in Vizag. Jaiswal's first hundred came in his debut Test innings back in July 2023. The talented youngster also has two fifties to his name in the format.

Jaiswal played a cracking square drive on the final ball of the 39th over to complete his 122-ball hundred. The opener hit his first boundary after 48 balls, but by the time he completed his hundred, Jaiswal had hit nine fours and five sixes.

The Uttar Pradesh-born batter tore apart James Anderson in the 27th over by hitting back-to-back boundaries on the first two balls, and then capping it off with a pull shot for six.

In the following over from spinner Tom Hartley, Jaiswal hammered a full toss over long-on for a 80-ball fifty. He came down the track on the very next delivery to loft another one over long on.

The second fifty came off his bat from 42 balls only! The scintillating knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal has put India in complete control of the Rajkot Test where India is aiming for a 2-1 lead. At the time the youngster completed his hundred, India's second innings lead was approaching 300 with nine wickets in hand.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also did his bit in fielding during the first session of the Day 3 by picking a very watchful catch at second slip as Joe Root attempted a reverse scoop off Jasprit Bumrah. The wicket triggered an England collapse. The visitors, who were once cruising at 224/2, were bundled out for 319 in reply to India's 445 runs in the first innings.
