India achieved a historic 336-run victory against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham (July 2-6, 2025), levelling the five-match series 1-1.
This marked India's first-ever Test win at the venue, ending a streak of seven losses and one draw. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring a monumental 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second, amassing 430 runs in the match. India posted 587 in their first innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja contributing significantly. Mohammed Siraj's six-wicket haul (6/99) and Akash Deep's match-defining 10 wickets, including key dismissals of Ben Duckett and Joe Root, dismantled England's batting.

England, chasing a daunting 608, crumbled under India's bowling attack despite counter-attacking centuries from Jamie Smith and Harry Brook. The victory, achieved without Jasprit Bumrah, showcased India's depth and resilience, setting the stage for an exciting third Test at Lord's.
Bumrah, India's star pacer missed out the Edgbaston Test due to workload management but India's win despite that is a massive factor. After a sublime bowling display from Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, India would be raring to have Bumrah back in the 3rd Test.
Jasprit Bumrah is confirmed to return for the third Test at Lord's, as stated by captain Shubman Gill, who noted the pitch would suit Bumrah's bowling. The India captain was asked about Bumrah's availability at Lord's and Gill was affirmative this time.
"Definitely (Bumrah is back). Very excited for Lord's Test. Probably the most iconic cricket stadium in the world and as a kid everyone dreams about playing there and I think no bigger honour than to be able to captain your country and lead your team there," Gill said at the post-match presentation.
India, with the win, also significantly improved their position in the WTC Points Table as this is their first victory in this new World Test Championship cycle.
