India head coach Gautam Gambhir has given the latest plan regarding Jasprit Bumrah, after the 1st Test at Headingley, which ended in a defeat.
Despite India's decent outing with the bat, England chased down 371 runs to secure a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Jasprit Bumrah, India's key speedster, picked up five wickets in the first innings, but remained wicketless in the second. Bumrah's fitness has been an issue coming into the series and the pacer is not guaranteed for all five matches. Before the start of the series, it was confirmed that Bumrah will be playing a limited number of matches in this series, which may well be between three or 4. And when asked about the current status, Gambhir revealed his latest thoughts.
"I think for us to manage Bumrah's workload is more important because there's a lot of cricket going forward and we know what he brings to the table as well," said the India head coach.
"So before he came on this tour, it was already decided that he's going to play three Test matches, but let's see how his body turns up. But we haven't decided which two other Test matches he's going to play," he added.
India captain Shubman Gill was also asked about Bumrah's availability, who confirmed that the management is thinking more of a game-by-game approach. Bumrah was excellent in the first innings, where he clinched 5 wickets, which also made him the most successful Asian pacer in SENA countries.
The 31-year-old has been nursing a back issue for some time now, which makes his workload management extremely necessary. With a long list of assignments coming up, preserving Bumrah's energy will be crucial for team India, and with a gap of seven days till the 2nd Test, a closer inspection of his recovery may determine his presence in the Edgbaston Test.
