IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal equals Rahul Dravid Record, becomes 3rd joint-fastest India player to 2000 Test Runs

By MyKhel Staff

Yashasvi Jaiswal has added another glittering achievement to his blossoming Test career, becoming the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 runs in the longest format.

The 23-year-old opener brought up the milestone during the second Test against England at Edgbaston, matching the legendary Rahul Dravid's record by reaching the mark in just 40 innings. He now shares this distinction not only with Dravid but also with former opener Virender Sehwag.

Jaiswal reached the landmark during his second innings in Birmingham, where he scored 28 after compiling a solid 87 in the first innings. His contribution was instrumental in India's imposing total of 587 in the first innings, built on significant partnerships with Karun Nair and Shubman Gill. His 87 came off 107 deliveries and included 13 boundaries, showcasing his ability to mix aggression with composure on a challenging surface.

What makes the feat even more impressive is that Jaiswal, at 23 years and 188 days, is now the second-youngest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. Only Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the milestone at 20 years and 330 days, got there at a younger age.

This latest achievement comes on the back of a prolific home series against England earlier this year, where Jaiswal amassed 712 runs at an average of 89. His ability to dominate both spin and pace, as well as to build innings with patience and maturity, has drawn comparisons to some of India's finest red-ball batters.

Globally, the fastest player to reach 2,000 Test runs remains Don Bradman, who did so in just 22 innings. While that mark remains untouched, Jaiswal's entry into the company of Dravid and Sehwag is a significant moment in Indian cricket. That he equalled the record set by his Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid will no doubt hold personal meaning for the young southpaw.

India ended Day 3 of the match with a lead of 244 runs. After India's massive 587 runs in the first innings, England were bowled out for 407 runs. Mohammed Siraj picked up 6 wickets, while Akash Deep also scalped 4 wickets.
