IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal may not break Sunil Gavaskar's Record - This is Why

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has managed to put himself in the same bracket alongside legend Sunil Gavaskar after his heroics with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England.

Gavaskar, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, holds the record for the most runs in a Test series for India, with 774 runs against the West Indies during the 1970-71 season. Despite several talented players representing India over the years, none had surpassed the 700-run mark in a Test series until Jaiswal's recent achievement.

Jaiswal currently has amassed 712 runs in this Test series. He scored 57 runs in the first innings of the Dharamshala Test, and now finds himself within touching distance of surpassing Gavaskar's record.

At just 22 years old, Jaiswal's accomplishment highlights his potential and significance to Indian cricket. He has a chance to make history if India bats in the second innings of the current series. With 63 more runs, Jaiswal could surpass Gavaskar's long-standing record and set a new benchmark for future generations.

Can Yashasvi Jaiswal break Sunil Gavaskar's Record?

The reason why there is doubt over whether Yashasvi Jaiswal will be getting a chance to beat Sunil Gavaskar's record is because India may not bat in the second innings. The hosts already have a mammoth lead of over 250 runs and that may be enough for them to secure an innings victory.

The visitors have crumbled in this series several times, and most recently, in the first innings in Dharamshala, where they lost five wickets in just eight runs. And as the Indian team has already amassed a sizeable lead, they may not have to bat again.

In that case, Yashasvi's hopes of breaking the 44-year-old record may remain untouched. Nevertheless, the southpaw looks destined to be a mainstay in the Test team and he should get opportunities later to shatter the record books.
