IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten 179 steers India to 336/6 at end of Day 1

IND vs ENG: India finished Day 1 of the second Test at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy in Visakhapatnam at a solid 336/6 in 93 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden Test hundred at home and powered India past 300 despite other batters failing to make any major impact.

Yashasvi Jaiswal went past his highest Test score of 171 and went unbeaten on 179 at the time of stumps. His innings consisted of 17 fours and five sixes.

India opted to bat first after winning the toss on a very good batting surface. But debutant Shoaib Bashir struck in his fourth over to get the wicket of India captain Rohit Sharma (14).

Shubman Gill stitched a 49-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal but got out for 34 runs off 46 balls to continue his lean patch in Test cricket. James Anderson picked his wicket in Test cricket for the fifth time. Left-hand batter Jaiswal forged yet another partnership with Shreyas Iyer for 90 runs off 131 balls.

The partnership saw Jaiswal chip in with 63 off 72 balls, and Iyer 27 off 59 balls. Once Iyer was dismissed by Tom Hartley, Jaiswal forged another 50-run stand with Axar Patel (27 off 51).

Shoaib Bashir struck for the second time in the day by removing Axar Patel (27) in the 86th over. Wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat was the sixth Indian batter of the day who got out between the score of 14 and 35. The match saw the first instance of number three, four, five and six batter getting dismissed between 25 and 35.

Bharat was dismissed for 17 off 23 in the 91st over of the day. Ashwin walked in at eight and remained unbeaten on 5 off 10.
