The milestone was achieved during the eighth match of the T20 World Cup 2024 league stages, held at Nassau County International Stadium in New York. In a pivotal over, Arshdeep dismissed Ireland openers Paul Stirling (5) and Andrew Balbirnie (2), leaving Ireland reeling at 9/2 in the third over.

The early breakthroughs by Arshdeep were instrumental in putting India on the front foot. His exceptional bowling spell not only rattled Ireland's top order but also set the stage for a comprehensive performance by the Indian bowling unit.

Ireland found themselves in dire straits, and by the 11th over, they had slumped to 49/7. The Irish team also posted their lowest powerplay total in a T20 World Cup match, scoring just 26/2 against India.

With this performance, Arshdeep took his powerplay wicket tally to 26, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah's 25. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar remains the undisputed leader in this category, with an impressive 47 wickets. Arshdeep's achievement highlights his growing stature and reliability as a key bowler for India in the shortest format of the game.

47 - Bhuvneshwar Kumar
26 - Arshdeep Singh
25 - Jasprit Bumrah
17 - Washington Sundar
16 - R Ashwin
15 - Ashish Nehra
15 - Axar Patel
13 - Yuzvendra Chahal

The match also saw Arshdeep create an unceremonious record. In the fifth over of the innings, he bowled the longest over by an Indian in T20 World Cup history, delivering ten balls and conceding 13 runs.

This over included four wides, one of which evaded wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and ran away for five wides. This surpassed the previous record held by Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled a nine-ball over against New Zealand during the 2016 edition.

Despite this hiccup, Arshdeep's overall performance was impressive. His initial spell read two overs for five runs with two wickets, effectively dismantling Ireland's top order. The left-arm pacer's ability to swing the ball both ways and maintain a disciplined line and length has made him a vital cog in India's bowling lineup.
