India captain Rohit Sharma left the field during the run chase against Ireland in their first group stage match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday (June 5).

Chasing just 97 runs, Rohit scored his 10th half-century of the T20 World Cup and steered India towards a victory, but had to leave the field after sustaining an injury. Rohit hit four boundaries and 3 massive sixes but just after completing his half-century, the India captain left the pitch retired hurt.

After the 10th over, Rohit was seen departing from the ground with the physio. The India captain was in discomfort and was subsequently substituted by the next batter Suryakumar Yadav.

Why did Rohit Sharma leave the field?

Although the cause is not clear, it looks like the issue for Rohit Sharma was caused after he was hit on the arm earlier in the innings. The pitch at the Nassau County Stadium has faced criticism for its uneven nature, and it looks like Rohit Sharma was a victim of that.

Although the injury extent of Rohit is still unclear, we may get the latest status soon. India won the match comfortably by 8 wickets as a returning Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 36 runs off just 26 balls.

How is Rohit Sharma Now?

Rohit Sharma's injury extent doesn't seem to be too serious. The India captain attended the post-match presentation and said that it was nothing but a little.

"Yes, just a little sore," Rohit said when asked about his arm after the match. Hence the Indian fans can expect the captain to lead his team in the next match against Pakistan on Sunday (June 9).
