IND vs NEP: India defeated Nepal by 10 wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a rain-affected match in their second and last group stage match against Nepal at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday, September 4.
India were set a revised target of 145 in 23 overs as rain delayed the second innings for nearly two hours soon after India began the run chase of 231. India overhauled the target in 20.1 overs without any loss and joined Pakistan in the Super Fours from Group A.

Captain Rohit Sharma and his young opening partner Shubman Gill scored brilliant half-centuries in the run chase and scored 74 and 67 respectively. The duo shared their third-century stand in ODIs before taking their team home without any hiccups. IND vs NEP, Asia Cup 2023: Aasif Sheikh's fine fifty in first match against India bodes well for Nepal Cricket
After winning the toss, India elected to bowl first against Nepal. The opposition batters made most of the early reprieves, courtesy of sloppy fielding from the Indians, and shared an opening stand of 65. The man with the golden arm, Shardul Thakur, provided India with the first breakthrough in the 10th over.
Later, Aasif Sheikh slammed a quickfire fifty and laid the foundation for a decent total for Nepalese. Sompal Kami also scored a quickfire 48 and took Nepal past the 200-run mark before getting bundled out for 230 in 48.2 overs.
India will also be looking to test a few things in the match. With the World Cup 2023 match set to be announced on September 5, the management and the selectors want to see Shreyas Iyer bat for a long duration and Jasprit Bumrah bowl his full quota of 10 overs.

On-field umpires Paul Wilson and Ruchira Palliyaguruge told broadcasters, "There is a slim chance we can get some cricket. According to the curator, he needs 30 minutes. 10 o'clock - they might hand over the ground, we'll have an inspection. We must start the game by 10:20 which will constitute 20 overs for India to bat. If we don't start by 10.20, we won't have a game. 11:36 is the closing time."
For the Asia Cup 2023 clash between India and Nepal to be completed, the pitch curator estimates that half an hour will be sufficient to prime the field for play. The stadium is predicted to be game-ready and handed over by 10 in the morning, followed by an inspection. The commencement of the match should be no later than 10:20, allowing India a batting spell of 20 overs. In the scenario where the match fails to initiate by this specified time, the game will be deemed cancelled and the points will be equally distributed.
Reserve Umpire, Jayaraman Madanagopal, walks into the middle without an umbrella as it has stopped raining at Pallekele. The ground staff have started to remove the covers. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has poked fun at the weather conditions in Sri Lanka.
There is a tournament in Hyderabad called Moin-Ud-Dowlah…it was considered to be an important part of the preparation for the first-class season. But invariably, most of the games would be rained out and it got the name—Rain-ud-dowlah. Same vibes for this #AsiaCup in Sri Lanka.

Team India still require 214 more runs to win but a full match looks highly unlikely as it continues to drizzle. DLS target for India if the match resumes will be 220 in 45 overs | 207 in 40 overs | 192 in 35 overs | 174 in 30 overs | 130 in 20 overs.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill began the run chase of 231 for India on a confident note as Team India reached 17/0 in 2.1 overs but rain gods once again opened up and forced the umpires to bring covers. Shubman Gill was batting on 12* off 6 balls while Rohit was unbeaten on 4.

Wicket! Mohammed Siraj cleans up Lalit Rajbanshi for a duck. With that, Nepal's innings came to an end for 230 in 48.2 overs. Siraj - 61/3 and Ravindra Jadeja - 40/3 were the pick of the bowlers as a spirited effort from Nepalese batting-order frustrated the Indians.
Wicket! Sandeep Lamichhane has been run-out by Axar Patel/Ishan Kishan for 9 and Nepal have lost their ninth wicket. A couple of wickets fell in this over and Nepal are 229/9 in 48 overs.
Wicket! Nepal lose their eighth wicket in the match as Sompal Kami got caught behind by Ishan Kishan off Mohammed Shami. The batter - who was looking in a phenomenal touch - nicked and the wicketkeeper took a fine catch jumping towards his right to end the knock at 48. Nepal are 228/8 in 47.2 overs. Much-needed wicket for Indians.
After Dipendra Singh Airee's departure, Sompal Kami has switched gears and started attacking Indian bowlers in the slog overs. He first dispatched Hardik Pandya over mid-wicket for a maximum in the 46th over and later in the 47th over, the right-handed batter did something similar to Mohd Siraj and moved on to 48*. Nepal - 227/7 in 47 overs.
The Nepal cricket team has gone past the 200-run mark for the loss of 7 wickets and they still have six more overs to go in this innings. It has been a brilliant performance from this team as they've kept a star-studded Indian bowling line-up frustrated with their grit and determination. Nepal - 206/7 in 45 overs.
Wicket! Hardik Pandya traps dangerous-looking Dipendra Singh Airee LBW for 29. The right-handed batter went upstairs to review it but there was nothing for the tv umpire to change the on-field umpire's decision. Nepal are 194/7 in 41.1 overs.
The players are back on the pitch and play has resumed. Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airee - who have shared a stand of 39 for the seventh wicket - have taken Nepal to 183/6 in 39 overs. They can well and truly reach 250 from this stage.
Good news! Rain has stopped and the covers are coming off. The ground inspection is scheduled at 6:30 PM. Teams are watching the development closely from the dressing room!
Almost the entire field is covered by the groundsmen at Pallekele. The showers have gotten heavier. The teams are watching things from the stands but Indians wouldn't be happy with the way Nepalese batted. They still have four wickets in hand and might easily reach 220-230, should they manage to play full 50 overs.
After a couple of occasions when the groundsmen had to return midway, the umpires have finally asked them to drape the pitch now. The drizzle at Pallekele is heavy now and the players have walked to the dressing room. Nepal are 178/6 in 37.5 overs. Some of the Indian players are sitting in the dugout as well.
Wicket! Mohammed Siraj gets his second wicket of the evening. Gulshan Jha - who was trying to hit him hard for every ball - tries to play for a strong drive and nicks it. Ishan Kishan takes the catch to end his knock for 23 off 35 balls. Nepal - 144/6 in 31.5 overs.
Wicket! Mohammed Siraj ends Aasif Sheikh's knock for 58. The right-handed batter tried to flick the ball towards leg-stumps but got a leading-edge and Virat Kohli took a simple catch at covers. Nepal - 132/5 in 29.5 overs.
