Yashasvi Jaiswal joined elite company after crossing 1000 Test runs in a calendar year milestone during the second Test between India and New Zealanda the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Friday (October 25).
The 22-year-old Indian opener reached the milestone during day 2 of the Pune Test as India resumed play at 16 for 1 in response to New Zealand's 259 all out in their first innings.

Jaiswal, who has been in rich vein of form since making his Test debut in 2023, became the fifth player to score 1000 plus runs in Test format in a single calendar year before turning 23. He joined Test greats like Sir Garfield Sobers, Graeme Smith, AB De Villiers and Alastair Cook in the list.
By reaching this landmark, Jaiswal also became the second batter to surpass the 1000-run mark in Tests this year after England's Joe Root, who tops the list for most runs in 2024 with 1305 runs in 24 innings. Jaiswal has scored 1007 runs in 18 innings.
Jaiswal has scored 2 centuries, which were both double hundreds, and 6 fifites in 2024. He had announced his arrival on to the international stage with 171 on his debut against West Indies in July 2023. He currently averages 58.86, amassing 1295 runs in 23 innings.
Coming back to the Pune Test, Jaiswal scored 30 off 60 balls before falling to Glenn Phillips. India also lost Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in addition to skipper Rohit Sharma's dismissal on day one.
The home side were at 85 for 5 at the end of 31 overs with Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja unbeaten at the crease. For New Zealand, spin duo of Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner claimed two wickets each in the first hour of play.
