IND vs NZ: 'Don't want to do any postmortem' - Rohit Sharma after India lose home Test series after 12 years

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma tried playing down India's first home Test series defeat in 12 years by saying that there was no need for any post-mortem after the 113-run defeat in the second Test against New Zealand in Pune.

New Zealand registered their first Test series win in India and ended India's streak of 18 Test series wins at home on Day 3 of the second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.

The Indian batting unit collapsed in both the innings as Mitchell Santner picked seven wickets in the first innings and six in the second. Rohit Sharma himself managed to score just eight runs in the match.

In the post-match press-conference after the match, Rohit Sharma said that a postmortem was not allowed as India have done exceptionally well in the past to win 18 consecutive home Test series. However, he added that the batters will have to score runs in the future.

"It has happened in the last two Test matches, we've won 18 consecutive series at home which means we've done a lot of things right. We've performed well exceptionally over the past number of years. Hence, I won't go too much deep into it and that we've messed up a lot. I think 2-3 innings we've underperformed with the bat but it happens when you're performing consistently for so long, you come under a loss," said Rohit Sharma in the post-match press conference.

"I don't want to doubt anyone's potential. These guys have helped us remain unbeaten at home for so long and hence I don't want to do any postmortem. But we can see what we can do to come out of such situations and batters should come out with trust in their plan. New Zealand batters also showed that if you put bowlers under pressure things will happen in your favour," he added.

India lost the first Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets after getting out for 46 in the first innings. India were bowled out for 156 in the first innings of the second Test. The third and final Test of the series will be played in Mumbai from November 1.
