Glenn Phillips plucked a bullet from the air in an acrobatic fashion to dismiss Shubman Gill in the Champions Trophy 2025 final on Sunday (March 9).
Chasing 252 runs to win the tournament, India made a superb start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. The pair added 105 runs in first wicket within the first 19 overs and were looking on course towards the target.

But in the fifth delivery of the 19th over, Mitchell Santner's flighted delivery was creamed by Shubman Gill. The India star thought, like most in the crowd, to find the fence, but in came Glenn Phillips to spoil his party.
The Kiwi fielder jumped in the air and plucked the ball while flying and completed an absolutely stunning catch. The crowd was absolutely stunned while the player afforded a bright smile after completing the superb grab. Gill, left stunned, had to walk back after scoring 31 runs in 50 deliveries.
The fans were in awe of Glenn Phillips' amazing catch. The Kiwi player has picked up some stunners in this Champions Trophy 2025, but this one was a monumental one as it provided the much-needed breakthrough for the Blackcaps. Although saddened by Gill's departure, the Indian fans hailed the New Zealand star for his amazing fielding display.
"There are good fielders who look like they're strolling in the park even when they do incredible stuff. Azharuddin fielded like a dream without throwing himself around. And then some good fielders somehow make moderately difficult things look very impressive. Like Glenn Phillips," a fan wrote on X.
This fan wants the Indian fielding coach to hand over the Best Fielder medal to Glenn Phillips. And we are not complaining!
While commentary, Sunil Gavaskar also hailed the Kiwi player and said it is a lesson to the batters to not play in their air anywhere near Glenn Phillips.
With the wicket of Shubman, the Kiwis have managed to get back into the game. Virat Kohli has also departed for just 1 runs and India are 113 for 2 after 21 overs.
