Rookie fast bowler Harshit Rana is set to join the Indian cricket team for the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai. This follows his impressive performance in Delhi's first outright win of the current Ranji Trophy season.
Rana, who was initially among the reserves, had been released to play for Delhi against Assam before the second Test in Pune, which India lost by 113 runs, giving New Zealand an unbeatable 2-0 series lead.

Rana will arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday, two days before the match at Wankhede Stadium. It is still uncertain whether he will be part of the main squad or remain a reserve. The 22-year-old has also been selected for the five-Test series in Australia starting on November 22 in Perth. A BCCI source confirmed, "Harshit will join the team tomorrow."
With the Indian management closely monitoring pacers' workloads ahead of the Australia tour, there is a chance that Jasprit Bumrah might be rested for the third Test. This could open up an opportunity for Rana to make his debut. Rana's recent performance saw him take a five-wicket haul against Assam in the first innings and two more wickets in the second, leading Delhi to a 10-wicket victory.
Delhi's head coach Sarandeep Singh expressed confidence in Rana's readiness for Test cricket. "He is ready to play Test cricket. He is a positive guy, he knows what he is doing. He is ready for the highest level," said Sarandeep, who is also a former BCCI selector.
Rana bowled 19.3 overs in Assam's first innings to claim five wickets and took two more in 11 overs during their second innings. His contribution with a score of 59 helped Delhi secure a first-innings lead. Additionally, Rana impressed during two matches in last month's Duleep Trophy.
Sarandeep praised Rana's determination and ability to bowl long spells, likening him to a horse. "He bowled his heart out for Delhi, he is always looking for wickets and is handy all-rounder," Sarandeep added. He hopes Rana will perform well during the upcoming Australia tour.
The Indian team's strategy and player management decisions will be crucial as they prepare for both the final Test against New Zealand and the challenging series in Australia.
