IND vs NZ: Hitman Rohit Sharma on the cusp of achieving 'Multiple Milestones' in Pune Test vs New Zealand

Rohit Sharma is currently India's leading run-getter in the World Test Championship (WTC) with 2,648 runs at an average of 46.45. Overall, he hammered 9 centuries and 8 half-centuries in 35 matches, registering his personal best score of 212.

The Indian captain is part of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand. Under his captaincy, Team India recently surrendered at the hands of New Zealand in the first Test in Bengaluru, in which the Kiwis won the game by 8 wickets.

Rohit Sharma

New Zealand won their first Test on Indian soil after 36 years. After a defeat in the Test opener, the Indian skipper will look to bounce back and make a significant impact in the upcoming match in Pune on October 24 (Thursday).

1. Could edge past Virender Sehwag's Sixes Tally: Rohit Sharma, who is known for his penchant for big shots, is just one six away from overtaking West Indies' batting maestro Brian Lara's tally of 88 sixes in Test cricket. During the Bengaluru Test, Rohit equalled Lara's record with a six, his 88th in the longest format. Meanwhile, the skipper's sights are now set on another Indian great, Virender Sehwag, who hammered 91 sixes in his Test career. Rohit needs just four more sixes to surpass Sehwag to become India's top six-hitter in Tests.

2. Could go past Murali Vijay's Fours Tally: Former Indian opener Murali Vijay, who played 61 Tests for India hit a flurry of 467 fours during his career. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma who hit 464 fours to his name, is just four fours away from surpassing Vijay's tally. With a penchant for piercing the gaps with his trademark drives and cuts, it is very much certain that the senior pro will reach this milestone in the Pune Test.

3. Could surpass Sourav Ganguly's run-tally vs New Zealand: In head-to-head clashes with New Zealand, Rohit Sharma has scored 478 runs in seven Tests, including five half-centuries at an average of 47.80. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly amassed 563 runs against New Zealand in eight Tests, including three centuries and two fifties at an average of 46.91. Rohit is 86 runs away from going past Ganguly's Test tally against the Kiwis. The veteran who was batting on 52 missed out on a big knock in Bengaluru after being dismissed in a strange manner. However, he will be determined to make amends and deliver a match-winning performance in this must-win encounter.
