IND vs NZ: India in serious trouble after New Zealand finish Day 2 at 198/5 and 301-run lead

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs NZ: New Zealand are in the driver's seat after finishing Day 2 of the second Test against India in Pune at 195/5 and a 301-run lead. Earlier in the day, the visitors bundled out India for 156 and took a 103-run first innings lead.

With five wickets still in hand, New Zealand stand superb chance to win the second Test and take an unassailable 2-0 lead. Notably, India haven't lost a home Test series since 2012. New Zealand's win against India in the first Test in Bengaluru was their first in the country in 36 years.

Starting from their overnight score of 16/1, the India batters were on their knees in front of left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who picked up seven wickets for 53 runs. Part-time spinner Glenn Phillips also chipped in with two wickets, while one wicket was picked by Tim Southee.

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the leading run-scorer for India in the first innings with 38 runs off 46 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and Shubman Gill (30) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores.

Virat Kohli was dismissed for one and Sarafraz Khan also fell for 11. Washington Sundar, who scored a hundred against Delhi last week, came out to bat at nine and remained unbeaten at 18 off 21.

Washington Sundar once emerged as the most impressive of the three spinners. He dismissed Devon Conway (17) and cleaned bowled Rachin Ravindra (7) for the second time in a row.

The off-spinner then broke a 34-run partnership for the fourth wicket by dismissing Daryl Mitchell. Despite wickets falling at short intervals, New Zealand batters kept the scoreboard ticking. Captain Tom Latham scored 86 off 133 before becoming Sundar's fourth victim in the innings.

At the time of stumps, Tom Blundell was unbeaten on 30 off 70, and was joined by Glenn Phillips (9* off 29).
