IND vs NZ: Naman Dhir powers India to victory with Explosive 42 Off 15

India produced a stunning run chase to defeat New Zealand by four wickets in the opening T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, with Naman Dhir delivering a sensational late assault to take the visitors over the line.

The Indian batter remained unbeaten on 42 off just 15 deliveries, turning a tense finish into a memorable victory.

Chasing a challenging target of 226 after New Zealand posted 225/4, India reached 230/6 in 19.4 overs. While Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer laid the foundation for the chase, Dhir's explosive finishing proved decisive in the closing stages.

Dhir walked in with India needing to maintain an aggressive scoring rate and responded with remarkable authority. His unbeaten innings featured five boundaries and two sixes, giving him a strike rate of 280.00. Rather than allowing the required rate to dictate the contest, he attacked the New Zealand bowling and ensured India stayed ahead of the equation.

His contribution was particularly significant because India had lost wickets during the middle overs. After Samson's dismissal for a blistering 67 off 33 balls and Iyer's departure for 42 off 28 deliveries, the chase required another batter to seize control. Dhir stepped up at precisely the right moment.

Samson had earlier provided the initial momentum with eight fours and four sixes, while Abhishek Sharma added a rapid 29 from 12 balls. Axar Patel also chipped in with a valuable 24 off 14 deliveries, helping India sustain the pressure on the hosts.

However, it was Dhir's finishing ability that ultimately separated India from New Zealand. His ability to find boundaries consistently in a high-pressure situation underlined his value as a middle-order batter capable of changing the course of a T20 contest. Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on two as India completed the chase with two balls remaining, sealing a four-wicket victory.
