Since November 2023, Rohit Sharma, as India's ODI captain, has faced an unusual series of misfortunes when it comes to tosses, having lost an unprecedented 10 consecutive tosses.
And as the India captain lost another toss in the Champions Trophy 2025 match against New Zealand, he turned heels on his former India teammate Dinesh Karthik.

In a light-hearted moment following yet another toss loss, this time against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy, Sharma was seen playfully bantering with Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik, a former teammate now turned broadcaster, was jokingly accused by Sharma of being a bad omen for him at the toss. The India captain could be seen turning to Karthik and tell him to go away rather as if Karthik's presence made him lose the toss.
A video of Rohit's interaction with Karthik was captured and it has gone viral since on social media.
Comparatively, the record for the most consecutive toss losses in ODIs was previously held by Brian Lara, who experienced 12 consecutive losses between October 1998 and May 1999, followed by Peter Borren with 11 losses from March 2011 to August 2013. Sharma's streak of 13 losses has surpassed these figures, marking a new record in the history of ODI cricket.
