IND vs NZ: Virat Kohli eyes 'Multiple Milestones' in Pune Test vs New Zealand

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is certainly one of the batters to watch out for in the upcoming Test match against New Zealand. The senior pro was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but scored a gritty 70 in the second innings in the opening Test match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru recently.

With India trailing 1-0 in the series following an eight-wicket loss in Bengaluru, the upcoming Test in Pune presents a must-win scenario to keep India's hopes alive. Kohli will look to bounce back stronger in the upcoming game.

As the team gears up for this crucial game at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on October 24 (Thursday), Kohli will be chasing some personal milestones. Let's now take a look at the milestones Kohli could achieve during the second Test.

Milestones or Records Kohli Could Breach in Pune Test

1. Could surpass David Warner's World Test Championship Tally: Kohli has been a consistent performer in the World Test Championship. He amassed 2,404 runs at an average of 38.77, which includes four centuries and 11 fifties.

He is just 20 runs away from surpassing former Australian opener David Warner's tally of 2,423 runs in the WTC, who has scored his runs at an average of 37.27, laced with five centuries and eight fifties.

2. Could go past Don Bradman's Test Century Tally: Virat Kohli's current tally of 29 Test centuries puts him level with the legendary Australian batter Don Bradman.

Scoring a 30th Test century in Pune would see Kohli go past Bradman in the Test century tally, which would add another feather to his illustrious cap. Having missed out on a century in the first Test, he will be eager to make this opportunity count.

3. Could edge past Sanath Jayasuriya's Test Fifty Tally: For the record, Kohli is currently tied with several prominent names such as Greg Chappell, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Tamim Iqbal and Brendon McCullum on 31 Test fifties.

Scoring another half-century in the Pune Test will help him surpass them, which would put him a step higher in the list of players with the most Test fifties.

4. Could surpass Graham Dowling: Currently, Kohli scored 936 runs against New Zealand and is the fifth leading run-scorer in India vs New Zealand Tests. New Zealand's Graham Dowling who scored 964 runs is fourth on the list.

Meanwhile, Kohli is 29 runs away from going past Dowling's tally to become the fourth leading run-getter in India vs New Zealand Tests.
