Hardik Pandya injured his left ankle in the ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh on Thursday.

The BCCI released a statement saying the Indian player will not take any part in the New Zealand match.

"Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling during India's match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune," a statement from BCCI read.

"The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England," the statement further said.

Why Hardik Pandya shiuldn't travel to Dharamshala?

It was easy to predict that Pandya won't be taking part against the Kiwis on Sunday. India will play the Kiwis at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and although Hardik will be a big miss, there are reasons why the decision of him not travelling to Dharamshala is the right decision.

Primarily, Hardik's left ankle is a key component of his bowling and resting him for the New Zealand clash is the right decision. It is to be seen how the Indian vice-captain recovers ahead of the England match, which will be played on October 29.

As India's match after New Zealand clash will have a week time, it can be said Hardik Pandya will be at a better stage in terms of injury status.

Also, Hardik not travelling to Dharamshala is the right decision as colder temperature in Dharamshala can aggrevate the injury. A sudden fluctuation of temperature, especially cold, can cause joint inflammation and make the injury worse. Hence Pandya not travelling to Dharamshala is the right decision.
