Ind vs Pak Asia Cup 2023 Match: India-Pakistan ODI create unique feat, break 20-year record

The ever-anticipated Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan has created a lot of attention across the cricketing fraternity.

India are taking on Pakistan in the group stages match of the continental tournament in Sri Lanka. Regarded as the mother of all battles, the two teams are locking horns for supremacy in the limited-overs format for the first time since their World T20 exploits last year.

But when it comes to 50-over cricket, these two sides are meeting after a humongous gap. Due to the absence of bilateral series, India-Pakistan cricket is a rarity these days. The arch-rivals often meet each other in ICC or ACC tournaments.

But this time, the wait to see an India-Pakistan clash in ODIs has been the longest since the inception of the game.

This match has the longest gap between two India and Pakistan ODI clashes. These two teams first met in the year of 1978 and since then, this is the longest gap.

India and Pakistan last met n the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, and the day was June 16, 2019. Hence, we have had a gap of 1539 days between two Ind-Pak ODI matches, which is the longest ever in history.

The previous longest gap was back in 1982 when these two teams met after 1491 days. (Nov 3, 1978 to Dec 3, 1982).

India vs Pakistan - 468 ODIs played between two Ind-Pak matches

The 2019 World Cup match between India and Pakistan was the 4161st ODI match in history. India's clash in the Asia Cup 2023 is the 4630th ODI match. There have been 468 ODIs played between two India-Pakistan matches, which is the most in history.

The previous gap between two Ind-Pak clashes was 374 ODIs, which happened between 3rd June, 2000 to 1st March, 2003. Thus this ODI match has broken a two-decade-long record.

But we may not have to wait for long to see these two teams clash again as India and Pakistan are poised to lock horns again in this edition of the Asia Cup.
