IND vs PAK: Rohit Sharma and Team India set an unwanted record on Sunday (February 23) even before a ball was bowled in the crucial Champions Trophy 2025 group stage match against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai.
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to bat first at the Dubai International Stadium in the third match of Group A. With that, India broke a world record for most consecutive toss loss in ODIs.

In the Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh, India equalled the needless record with Netherlands after losing the toss 11 times in a row in One Day Internationals. Now, with the recent toss result against Pakistan, India have gone past the Dutch with 12 successive toss lost. In the previous 11 matches, India has won 6 and lost 4, while one match ended in a tie.
The streak of India losing tosses started back in the 2023 ICC World Cup final against Australia, which the Men in Blue lost. Then it continued under KL Rahul's leadership, as the stand-in Indian skipper lost all three tosses in the away ODI series against South Africa in 2023. However, Rahul & Co won the series 2-1.
Rohit Sharma lost three tosses in India's only ODI assignment in 2024, the 0-2 away series loss against Sri Lanka then the skipper lost all the three tosses earlier this year in the home series against England, which India ended up white-washing the visitors.
Earlier, Netherlands had set the record during the period March 2011 and August 2013. Toss is mostly based on luck. At the toss on Sunday (February 23), Rohit said, "Doesn't really matter, they won the toss so we'll bowl first."
As for team news for the India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy match, Pakistan were forced into one change with Imam-ul-Haq replacing the injured Fakhar Zaman, while Rohit & Co remained unchanged from their victory over Bangladesh.
