IND vs PAK, Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma Becomes First Cricketer In The World To Amass THIS Huge ODI Feat

IND vs PAK: Rohit Sharma etched his name in the record books once again during the ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. The dynamic opener surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to claim a prestigious milestone, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest ODI batsmen of all time.

Although Rohit began his international career as a middle-order batter, his full potential was unlocked when former captain MS Dhoni promoted him to open the innings. Since then, he has rewritten several records, including becoming the only player to smash three double-centuries in ODIs, with his highest score being a mammoth 264.

Fastest to 9000 ODI Runs as an Opener

Rohit Sharma achieved yet another landmark by becoming the fastest player to score 9000 runs as an ODI opener. He reached the milestone in just 181 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who previously held the record at 197 innings. Rohit is now the first player in history to accomplish this feat in under 190 innings. He managed to score just 20 runs before getting castled by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Elite Club of ODI Openers

With this record, Rohit joined an elite list of batters who have amassed over 9000 runs as an opener in ODIs. The leading run-getters as openers in ODI cricket are:

    • Sachin Tendulkar - 15,310 runs
    • Sanath Jayasuriya - 12,740 runs
    • Chris Gayle - 10,179 runs
    • Adam Gilchrist - 9,200 runs
    • Sourav Ganguly - 9,146 runs
    • Rohit Sharma - 9,019 runs

Closing in on Another Six-Hitting Record

Rohit Sharma, already the highest six-hitter in international cricket, is on the verge of achieving another massive milestone. The Indian skipper currently has 339 sixes in ODIs and is just 13 maximums away from surpassing Shahid Afridi's record of 351 sixes to become the all-time leading six-hitter in ODI history.

Meanwhile, Pakistan managed to post a modest total of 241 runs, with Saud Shakeel contributing a fighting 62. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide adequate support. India's bowling attack, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3 wickets) and Hardik Pandya (2 wickets), ensured Pakistan could not post a challenging total. India now has a target of 242 runs to chase in this high-stakes encounter.

At the time of writing this article, India were batting at 182/2 with complete control of the run-chase.
