IND vs PAK: Fakhar Zaman wins hearts by helping Premadasa ground staff to put covers in heavy Colombo rain

Fakhar Zaman won hearts after rain stopped the Super Fours match between India and Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10. The 33-year-old was seen holding the covers and running alongside ground staff at the ground as soon as the rain hit the match after 24.1 overs of play.

The pictures and videos of the 33-year-old trying to help the groundsmen cover the ground from one end have gone viral on social media. Fans have praised the modest attitude of the southpaw.

Despite a bright sunshine at the start of the match, the conditions became cloudy all of a sudden in Colombo. A sheet of dark clouds covered the R Premadasa Stadium and it started pouring in heavily after Shadab Khan bowled the first ball of the 25th over to Virat Kohli.

A reserve day has been kept for the match. In case the play does not resume today, it will restart from the 24.1 overs of the Indian innings on Monday, September 11. However, the match officials will first try to get done with the match today (Sunday) itself even if it requires deducting the overs. Pakistan will need to chase 181 in case the match is reduced to a 20-over per-side affair.

After being asked to bat first, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma took on the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan to forge a 121-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Fakhar Zaman struggling for form

Fakhar Zaman has been struggling for form lately and has managed to score only 34 runs from three matches (two innings) of the Asia Cup 2023. In the preceding 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan, he scored 2, 30 and 27 and struggled to find any sort of rhythm.
