IND vs PAK: Former India cricketer wants Pakistan to win over India in Champions Trophy clash

By MyKhel Staff

India and Pakistan are set to face off on Sunday, in what promises to be one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Ever since the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the tournament schedule, excitement has been building around this marquee encounter. Several former cricketers from both nations have weighed in on the contest, largely backing their respective teams to emerge victorious.

But surprisingly, former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan expressed his preference for a Pakistan win in the crucial match, which will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The former India player said he wants Pakistan to win as their elimination would make the tournament bland.

"I want Pakistan to win the match as it will make the tournament exciting. If Pakistan is eliminated, then what will be left in the contest?" said Wassan to ANI.

Wassan's remarks have raised eyebrows, as former cricketers generally stand by their national team, even while acknowledging the strengths of the opposition.

Heading into this pivotal match, both teams have had contrasting starts to their Champions Trophy campaigns. Pakistan suffered a 60-run defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the tournament opener, whereas India comfortably secured a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh, chasing their target with 21 deliveries to spare.

Historically, Pakistan have held an edge over India in the Champions Trophy, winning three out of the five encounters between the two sides. However, their recent performances in 50-over cricket against India paint a different picture.

Excluding a rain-affected game in the 2022 Asia Cup, Pakistan have suffered four consecutive ODI losses against their arch-rivals. Also, Pakistan are coming into this monumental clash with extra pressure after the defeat against New Zealand. Mohammad Rizwan and co. will be almost eliminated from Champions Trophy if they lose to India.
