Despite the Colombo surface known to favour spinners, Pakistan have opted to go with Faheem to expose India's trouble against quality pace bowling. He also picked the wickets of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja later in the innings to help Pakistan bundle out India for 266 in 48.5 overs. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were equally impressive.

India had accumlated runs easily against the spinners in the middle overs. Mohammad Nawaz is the only player dropped from the Pakistan eleven which played India in the league stage.

Shadab Khan will take charge of the spin department but Pakistan have part-time spinners Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed to roll their arms for a few overs if need arises.
