IND vs PAK: India are set to take on Pakistan in their first match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday, September 2. While Pakistan are unlikely to make any changes to their playing eleven from the Afghanistan match which they won by 238 runs, suspense over Team India's combination remains.
Ishan Kishan is certain of featuring in the playing eleven in the absence of KL Rahul but his batting position is unclear. Considering the nature of the surface at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, the management can get tempted to play a third spinner in Axar Patel but in that case either of Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj will have to be rested.

Incidentally, Siraj and Ishan Kishan were not even part of the squad when India last met Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Likewise, there are a handful of players who were part of the playing eleven of that last-ball thriller, but have failed to make a cut in the India squad for Asia Cup 2023. Let's have a look.
IN
Ishan Kishan
Mohammed Siraj
Jasprit Bumrah
Kuldeep Yadav
Shreyas Iyer
These five players were not even in the India squad for T20 World Cup 2022 due to various reasons including injuries. However, they are almost certain of finding a place in India's playing XI against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 match on Saturday.
OUT
Dinesh Karthik
Ravichandran Ashwin
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Arshdeep Singh
The aforementioned four players were part of the playing eleven of India's iconic match against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup last year. They have failed to find a place in the Rohit Sharma-led India's Asia Cup 2023 squad.
Apart from these players Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel (all part of India's T20 World Cup 2022 squad) have also failed to make a cut in the Indian squad for Asia Cup 2023.
