Shubman Gill turned up the heat on Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi during India's first Super Fours match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. The 24-year-old, who was dismissed for 10 off 32 in the league stage match against Pakistan, ripped apart the left-arm pacer with his class batting.
The Punjab batter showed why he is rated as one of the best young batters in the world and the 'Prince' of Indian cricket team, by toying with Shaheen Afridi deliveries who was continuously bowling in excess of 140 km/h.

In the third over of the match from Shaheen Afridi, Shuban Gill hit back-to-back boundaries on the first two deliveries. After guiding a delivery towards fine leg, the opener blasted one through mic-wicket for a second boundary. On the fifth delivery of the same over, Shubman Gill leaned forward and drove the ball through mid-off for another boundary.
The show continued in the fifth over. He walked down against the star pacer first and hammered him over mid-on and then played an exquisite cover drive on the fifth delivery. The final delivery was full and wide and Shubman Gill slapped it through the left of cover fielder for another boundary.
Shaheen Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra in the league match and his bowling figures of 4/35 in 10 overs played a key role in bundling out India for 266.
However, he ended up leaking 31 runs from his first three overs on Sunday. A meme fest of sorts erupted on X (formerly Twitter). Here is how fans reacted to the massacre from Shubman Gill.
