India's vice-captain Shubman Gill has been spotted filling in as the stand-in captain during the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan in Dubai.
Rohit Sharma was all fit for the toss and started captaining India but after the 13th over, Shubman replaced him as the skipper on the pitch.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma reportedly sustained an injury during the early stages of Pakistan's innings. The incident occurred while Sharma was fielding, leading to his immediate withdrawal from the field for medical assessment.
The nature and severity of his injury have not been officially disclosed and it is unknown how long the India captain would require before he comes back to the pitch. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma returned to the field in the 19th over and it looks like he is fine for now.
It might have been a minor knock and the India captain is fit to continue marshalling his troops. But in the recent overs, Rohit looked in pain while chasing the ball, which heightened doubts in the commentators' mind about his fitness and running ability.
Earlier, Mohammed Shami also had a potential calf issue and went off the field for a brief period.
While Rohit Sharma was sidelined, vice-captain Shubman Gill stepped in to lead the Indian team. Gill, who has been in exceptional form, scoring an unbeaten century in India's opening match against Bangladesh, was appointed vice-captain for the tournament.
Pakistan decided to bat first after winning the toss and have lost two wickets, including the run-out of Imam-ul-Haq by Axar Patel and the dismissal of Babar Azam by Hardik Pandya. After Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel stitched a 100-run partnership, India managed three more wickets with Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja getting one scalp each.
At the moment, they are 183 for 5 at the end of 40 overs, Khushdil Shah and Salman Ali Agha at the crease.
With Rohit Sharma having a definite issue, there are doubts if the India captain will be coming out to bat at his usual position in the run chase. Although Rohit has been in pain and may have some issues, the innings break will be pivotal. There is no indication about the severity and it is to be seen if the veteran opens the innings.
