IND vs SA: India's recent ODI series win over South Africa has highlighted a strategic transition currently underway within the national setup. The management is attempting to reshape the squad with emerging talent while still leaning on its seasoned match-winners - a process that head coach Gautam Gambhir believes is heading in the right direction.
The series saw the perfect demonstration of that balance. Virat Kohli, turning back the clock, dominated the three ODIs with two centuries and a fifty, earning him the Player of the Series award.

His batting form resembled the unstoppable phase he enjoyed from 2015 onward. Rohit Sharma, too, chipped in with a couple of fluent half-centuries, showing no signs of diminishing rhythm.
Gambhir made no secret of his satisfaction with their influence and output.
"Look, they're quality players. I've said it many times as well that they're world-class players. They are quality players in this format and their experience is really important in the dressing room," he said after India sealed the series 2-1 with a commanding nine-wicket win.
He added: "They're doing what they do... Hopefully, they can continue doing the same, which is always going to be important come the white ball format and the 50-over format."
However, the series also offered an opportunity to assess the next line of performers due to the absence of senior bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, along with injuries to Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
One of the biggest positives for Gambhir was the development of Harshit Rana.
"That's one of the reasons why we are trying to probably develop someone like Harshit, who can actually bat at No. 8 and contribute with a bat," he explained, emphasizing the long-term goal of squad balance ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Gambhir also praised young pacers Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna, saying their performances were "incredible" considering their limited experience.
"They've hardly played, what, less than 15 ODIs. But they've done a fabulous job," he said.
With both proven leaders and upcoming talent delivering, India's ODI pathway appears encouraging - and Gambhir's vision is only beginning to take shape.
