IND vs SA: Gerald Coetzee, the latest pace sensation from South Africa, has heaped praise on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of the Boxing Day Test match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion starting December 26.

The 23-year-old, who was recently bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2024 mini auction, has called him a competitor who is waiting eagerly to bowl against the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

However, the youngster showed immense respect to the two greats of the game by admitting that facing a bowler like him wouldn't be anything new for Kohli or Rohit.

“The Test series against India will be my toughest challenge in the longest format. I want to test myself against the best. Virat Kohli and Rohit are big players. I am a competitor and want to be tested at the highest level. But for them, I don’t think it will be anything new. They are class batters. I will be a great learning experience for me.” Coetzee told RevSportz.

Further, the right-arm pacer revealed that he considers former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn as his cricketing hero. He credited him for helping him in his tough days and expressed his wish to play under his guidance in future.

“My cricketing hero was Dale Steyn. I met him when I was going through a rough patch in red-ball cricket. He was very helpful and we had coffee together. I share a good relationship with him and hopefully, I play under him in the future,” he added.
