IND vs SA: Jasprit Bumrah Nears Kapil Dev's 32-Year-Old Record With Stunning Show In Cape Town

By MyKhel Staff

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah had another memorable spell during Day 2 of the India vs South Africa 2nd Test as his six-wicket spell helped India to a seven-wicket win in Cape Town on Thursday (December 4).

This was the eighth time in his career that he took a fifer in overseas condition, going on level terms with the likes of Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma, and BS Chandrasekhar. He is now one five-wicket spell away from matching Kapil Dev's 32-year-old record.

After the game, Bumrah said Newlands Cricket Ground has always been special to him as he made his Test debut back in 2018 at the venue. "This ground will always hold a special place in my heart. It was always a dream to play Test cricket and the journey started here, there's always fond memories of my first game," said Jasprit Bumrah.

"Very happy that it went well today as well. That journey started in 2018 - our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to create an impact. We knew that if we want to do well in foreign conditions, we'll have to bowl a lot more and consistently," Bumrah said after the game."

"In India, the spinners do a lot more work. The vision started from there. Our team is also going through a transition. Lot of the bowlers have been changed, but the message is still the same, you have keep fighting. It's not easy playing in South Africa, different conditions, the crowd is also something.

"We fought it out in the last game as well. It's difficult to keep coming at it because it requires a lot of strength and patience. If you lose it, in one session, the game goes out of your hand," Bumrah added.

In the second Test match between India and South Africa, which was played on a resentful surface encircled by the picturesque Table Mountains and where the ball could do all sorts of tricks, the visitors leveled the series. On the second day, India easily outscored the hosts with the ball, even after opener Aiden Markram hit a heroic ton. They managed to chase down a meager target in less than 11 overs.
