On an overcast afternoon in Durban, there were concerns about team India's batters against the pace of the South African team.
But Sanju Samson roared like a lion amidst the Kingsmead. The Indian batter devoured the Proteas bowlers to score a scintillating century in the 1st T20I, his second in the format.

Sanju, fresh from excellent form against Bangladesh, took on the South African bowlers from the start. He hit some exquisite boundaries to start his knock, and then latched on to Keshav Maharaj within powerplay.
From that point, the Kerala-born took apart the hosts across the park. He smothered them across the Kingsmead with ease, hitting them for fours and clearing the boundary with ease.
Sanju's hundred came in 47 deliveries, which is the quickest by an Indian player against South Africa in T20Is, beating Suryakumar Yadav's record who managed his ton in 55 balls.
With the hundred, Sanju Samson also becomes the first Indian player to score consecutive centuries in T20Is. He also scored a fantastic century in the last encounter against Bangladesh.
Samson hit 7 fours and 10 sixes before getting dismissed for 107 runs in 50 balls. Apart from Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma have also played decent cameos.
In the world, Sanju Samson is only the 4th batter to score consecutive T20I hundreds. French batter Gustav McKeon was the first to achieve the feat, while South Africa's Rilee Rossouw and English batter Phil Salt were the others.
The run-scoring from Samson has been coming at the right time amid him getting retained by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Samson is set to continue with the Royals for the next IPL cycle as his services was retained for Rs 18 crore.
