IND vs SA: South Africa squad announced, Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada not part of ODI and T20I teams

South Africa on Monday, December 4 announced Test, ODI and T20I squads for their upcoming series against India. Temba Bavuma, who went through a horrid run with the bat in World Cup 2023, has been rested from the white-ball leg. Aiden Markram will lead the South Africa ODI and T20I sides.

Pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada has also been rested from the ODI and T20I squads. Bavuma will return to lead the side in the 2-Test series which starts from December 26. Kagiso Rabada has also been named in the Test squad.

"ODI captain Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada are amongst a group of players that have been omitted for the white-ball leg of the tour in order to play red-ball cricket as emphasis is placed on the Test series for which both will return," CSA said in a statement.

"Meanwhile, Anrich Nortje (lower back stress fracture) and Wayne Parnell (left shoulder) were not considered for selection as they are still undergoing rehabilitation for their respective injuries," the statement added.

Pacer trio of Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi will miss the 3rd T20I and the following ODI series and will instead, together with Bavuma and Rabada, play first-class matches for their respective domestic teams from December 14 – 17 to preparation for the Test series.

Mihlali Mpongwana, David Bedingham and Nandre Burger have earned their maiden call-ups to the national set-up. Fast bowler Buger has been included in all the three formats, batter Bedingham has been picked for the Test series, while all-rounder Mpongwana finds himself in the ODI squad.

Tristan Stubbs has got his maiden Test call-up. The 23-year-old, who has already made his ODI and T20I debut, impressed with his 117 for South Africa A against Sri Lanka earlier this year and most recently smashed 130 runs against DP World Lions in the last round of CSA 4-Day Domestic Series matches.

Further, wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne has been recalled to the ODI and Test squads. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder has also been included in the ODI and Test squads.
